Myndway is a startup that offers mindfulness courses for companies and teams, consisting of multiple workshops and additional material. Working closely with the founding team, we at Scenid created a digital classroom for their remote mindfulness and New Work courses, called myndway academy.
Briefing
At the beginning of the pandemic, myndway was looking for a way to provide teams looking to improve working culture and mental health with course offerings while maintaining social distancing guidelines.
Scenid was hired to solve this problem. The goal was to provide course participants with a classroom structure to make remote mindfulness courses more accessible and engaging.
Discovery
Together with the founders of myndway we established the vision and the scope for the project through a project canvas and a roadmap outlining the project timeline. Using scrum, we roughly followed the double-diamond framework to work towards a solution.
Through interviews with the founders and coaches from myndway we defined user groups and identified the most important use cases for the scope of the project. We researched other platforms with similar course offerings to find out how to best integrate remote human-led classes into our platform. From there, we crafted user journeys and roughly mapped out the architecture of the platform.
UX concept & wireframing
For each use case we mapped out user flows with rough wireframe sketches to describe what types of elements each frame would entail. Through iterating multiple variations of rough wireframes in close feedback loops with myndway as well as internal feedback sessions we eventually landed on a set of reoccurring elements as well as a layout and information architecture that worked for all use cases.

Design system
Based on the guidelines set up by the visual identity and the components of the platforms I introduced to the wireframes, I created a design system for the platform.
Screen design
After checking with the myndway team, I proceeded to converting the wireframes into finished screen designs. Using the newly established design system I created designs for all of the user flows of the MVP for the final design handoff. In a presentation we shared our final designs with the client to make sure it matched their vision for the platform.
Launch & feedback
Within a few months myndway academy was implemented and launched. Throughout this process, I was in close feedback loops with the developers to answer questions about the designs and make sure the final product matched the vision.
The myndway academy became a vital part of myndway's course offerings and the feedback they received from their participants sparked the next wave of development for the platform.

Continued work
After launching the initial version of the academy we worked on a landing page as well as some more features for course participants to interact with the core topics and with each other a bit more.
We also conceived of an expansion of the platform where courses don't need to be set up by admins as well as some more interactive features to engage with course topics in between workshops. For these ideas I created many screen designs to flesh out user flows and cross-platform consistency.
What I learned
This project marked the first time I was actively involved in building a platform from the ground up, from start to finish. Through working on a product that facilitates human-taught classes I internalised that all digital products follow or facilitate workflows outside the digital realm to some degree. I learned how to build a design system from a CI and I learned to value the clarity and consistency that these guidelines create.
