Together with another design agency and a sexual health care NGO we created the e-learning system Lernen.FAQYOU to assist sexual health care education in schools across Germany. The role of Scenid in this collaboration was to create the UX concept as well as developing the platform. The other design agency’s task was to bring the visual brand of the NGO into the e-learning system and create screen designs. It was my job to create the UX concept and consult on the screen designs for consistency.
Outlining constraints
At the beginning of the project, I worked closely together with stakeholders from the NGO to determine the user flows and other requirements. The NGO had been doing sex ed courses in person for years before. The goal was to translate these guided courses into linear digital lessons that users could explore on their own.
Aside from providing these courses, the platform also had to facilitate organisational structures that exist in classrooms. Teachers should be able to manage their classes and admins needed to be able to manage the structure and content of each lesson. After we established all necessary user flows for each user group I created rough wireframes to hand over to the design agency tasked with creating screen designs.
Launch & feedback
The screen designs were eventually implemented. Internal testing and later testing in some schools led to a few changes in the finished product. The e-learning system was then rolled out to hundreds of schools and used in many sexual health care education classes. We received a lot of positive feedback and the product was even awarded a prize for its visual design.
I was told by my superiors that my thorough conceptual work enabled the project to run smoothly after I handed it off. And looking back, I learned that good conceptual work can create a clear shared mental model for the product across all parts of the team. And that is a good foundation for a good project.
